CONSTRAINTS & LIMITATIONS
Physical
The windows needed to be covered
Bottom part might be obstructed by people, or might not even be reached by the projector
There was a very limited time for the actual execution – which then effects feasibility of ideas proposed,
Building is not symmetrical
There are external sources of light
There are objects between the projectors and the building such as signs, light poles etc.
Technicalities such as size of final projection, number of projectors, were not defined from the get go
The building plan was not given to us until very late so we had to use other, not so accurate means such as taking manual measurements and putting in illustrator, making a huge photo manipulation connecting photos from all parts of the façade and finally using a second hand 3d model used for the previous year’s New Year’s Eve projection mapping which was a bit warped

Creative/Narrative
There was already an approved script by V18, which was shown to us right before production so we had to meld not only all the different group’s ideas, but V18’s as well. This was because our tutors wanted to see what we can come up with without influence from other ideas and direction.
Script initially made and approved by v18 was very cliché in narrative elements and imagery, didn’t give any consideration to the architecture (likely by a lack of research), was not feasible given the time constraint
We were given key points and themes to base our narrative around - (Malta, Valletta, EU, Christmas, New Year, old-new, architectural projection mapping etc.) and these were compulsory elements
Narrative needs to be accessible to all (Maltese/foreigners, old/young)
It also needs to highlight and play off of the architecture of the building
Ideas proposed need to be executed by people of varying skill sets and skill levels
Learning from other projection mappings in Malta:
Mcast exhibitions – Mr. Paul Camilleri has gained a lot of experience through the years doing the mcast exhibition projection mappings, so ideas which didn’t work as they intended on these projects will help determine possibilities and constraints of the proposed ideas
nye 2012 – external sources of light, DJ speaking throughout the entire thing ruining the immersion and experience, imagery was arbitrary.
notte bianca 2013 - the area wasn’t dark enough so it was a little unconvincing, their use of a figure in the windows looked a little artificial, the quire in the triangles appeared one too many times, the song was overdramatic and repetitive, the architecture was used very sparingly
