It is all about the Timing!
I came across a very interesting projection mapping, it may not be the best visually looking drawings, though one thing which struck me is the timing and taught put into it. How with just simple illustrations projected onto a wall and a long stool it has made the viewer entertained. The man transforms into a world were he connects with these illustrations making it interactive, with just simple illustrations, music which also links with the movements transforms it into a playful fantasy world. Truly enchanting.
The colour it portrays is in black and white and it is quite flat as effects with some images which eventually pop out, Draws the viewer in with quick changes and a lot of symmetric and geometric shapes can be seen also with art works and the use of white on a dark background to have a contrast.

Its starting to look like Christmas!
Since our projection is going to be based on Christmas and New Year it is more than fitting to find a Christmas projection mapping, I like the beginning in how they wrap up the building like a Christmas tree and how the Christmas tree appears. It is far from the best projecting mapping but I wanted to portray good projections as well as ones which may not have worked out so well, it is lacking as it is not very clear and looks almost blurry. I like how the Christmas music is portrayed in the background giving the atmosphere and surrounding a Christmas spirit.
I came across this projection mapping called 'CGI VFX Projection Mapping HD: "El masnou' by AndVFX' it was a projection for a festival. I was very impressed by the effects and the 3d impact it portrayed, bringing it to life making it look almost life like, and how the sound affects followed wowing the crowd with amazement. Playing with these kind of simple aspects can go a long way making a brilliant projection mapping. The building looks like it is actual crumbing and coming down at one point in time. It engages the people and almost makes it feel like it is life like.
Visit at the Palace and research photos
Part of our research was to visit the Palace and observe and take note of the surroundings, to help us visual the Palace better and help with our concepts for the project. Below are my some of my best pictures from what I observed on the day. I tried my best to observe the details around me, as these play an important part in the research.
Concepts, Sketches, Ideas and Artwork
Task 1
For the first assignment when we were divided into groups of ''De Vilhena'' below are some early ideas and inspirations very early on in the projection. You can see our process on the ''De Vilhena'' and how we implemented our work.
I wanted to portray thin lines since filigree has a very thin metal which can be manipulated various ways.
other basic sketches/illustrator files above with early ideas. I particulary liked the clock which was placed as soon as you entered the first courtyard, which had an artistic element towards it.
Early ideas
In between talking about scripts, I decided to work on some concepts which were snow flakes/lace, before we were split into groups. Just some early work.
Scene 3 -
concepts, ideas, sketches and artwork
We were divided into groups and held a meeting to discuss what could be done, as a team we talked and discussed how the storyboard could work out, understood how the scene was going to unfold and how we would distribute the work between the team fairly. Since we were the biggest team, we had the most work to tackle. Matthew was also present documenting taking photos/videos of our meeting.
Story Board
I started to work on the story board, below is an early concept and the foundation to the later stages of the story board.
some initial ideas above I used for the story board.
Tags
Below are the start of the tags, the last picture contains the template for the final tags, which from then on Silvio added the colours and text.
Wrapping paper
Above are some of the test pieces for the wrapping paper and inspiration. I included the ponsietta in the design to give it a Christmas feel.
This is the final piece and how it turned out above
Children
For part of scene 3 there was the kids at first we taught they were going to be silhouettes, so this was an early idea above. Testing out also the hands and how they would move if split.
Inspiration
Since we were following a same style I had to imitate what Silvio/Fleur implemented so as to make it match the scene.
Sketches and developments
I started working on the kids above you can see there faces/some work in progress, for this part of the assignment I was taking care of the kids faces and top patterns which I created, from there on I forwarded them to Kurt Bullock to place them together.
Inspirations
Above are the patterns I started off with, I started off with a very bright though it was clashing, so I went for a more minimal colour to look like a jumper and appear visually appealing, with feedback from team mates.
more pattern designs above, I tried making them as Christmassy / cheesy as possible to reflect on these jumpers.
this is how they turned out when kurt placed/illustrated everything together:
Photography
I also helped out in taking some photos of students while they were working on projection as work in progress, as well as taking photos of them setting up outside the palace and photos the night it was first shown to public . These photos were then forwarded to the production team to use for various aspects such as behind the scenes, the booklet and along with other things. Below are a few pictures of the process which I photographed among other things.

Manifestos
When looking up manifesto I came across this, inspirational, from what I could understand manifestos are a kind of way of life, how you may live it, what you believe in or steps to doing so.
Design is random
Inspiration
This is my final piece which is displayed above.
Random is Design. Random is the inspiration you get at 3 in the morning while trying to sleep, random is the design which does not make sense but once together does.Random Design is David Carson,Random design is dada. random design is exciting, scary and unknown. Life is random.
