Ralph Lauren 4D Projection Mapping
“I'm not designing clothes, I'm creating a world.” Ralph Lauren
Two of Ralph Lauren’s flagship stores, 888 Madison Avenue and 1 New Bond Street became canvases to project a digital experience designed to show and communicate the world of Ralph Lauren.
Art and design principles: The stores were transformed into a cat walk stage consisting of stairs and chandeliers. At the end of the show the audience could also see the inside of the building being projected. Interactivity was also a major part in this project when the air was filled with Ralph Lauren’s Big Pony fragrance as soon as the perfume bottles appeared.
Elements of design: Certain effects such as the linear flames shown at the beginning, the curtain effect and other transitions done to the Ralph Lauren's products gave a boost to this performance.
Formal qualities: The sound chosen played a very important part in this projection. It was well synchronized with the visuals and gave a sense of professionalism in their work. The use of green screens to shoot the men on horses and the models on the cat walk made the visuals look more realistic together with the 3D constructed building that surrounded them.
Function: The show was very entertaining even though it was almost 8 minutes long. The part where one of the men on the horses suddenly froze, became the Ralph Lauren symbol and then placed on one of the perfumes was well thought. At the end, Ralph Lauren was seen waving from a window as to remind the audience of the founder of this successful company.
Form: The storyline of this projection was written in a way that it joined together Ralph Lauren's products with modern design technology for advertising but at the same time entertaining the audience.

Samsung 3D Projection Mapping
As a marketing scheme, Samsung decided to advertise their new 3D TV on the façade of the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. The 3D projection was designed and developed by NuFormer Projections.
Art and design principles: A very calming ambience is created in this projection. Even though part of the building was used, it was enough to pass on the message within almost 3 minutes. It was a very simple yet effective project which kept the audience's attention throughout.
Elements of design: The projection started with a crack in the building that opened a world inside an aquarium. Other effects were used that continued to make this experience worth watching such as breaking glass, water leakage and growing wildlife.
Formal qualities: The use of different colours made the visuals look more alive. These included the orange goldfish, pink flowers with green leaves and the ocean blue water. The ambience sounds were very well designed with the visuals which brought the design to life.
Function: It was a very effective marketing strategy since the projection was made in a very wise manner. At first the audience sees 3D imagery in various ways which are then suddenly inserted in the Samsung 3D TV.
Form: The whole projection seemed to be built in 3D apart from the growing vines at the beginning of the show. The creators of this projection were able to combine nature with technology in an interesting way.

China 3D Projection Mapping
"Golden Dolphin", a famous 3D projection mapping company in China developed this 13 minute projection.
Art and design principles: In this projection the artists modified the building in many different forms but always kept the building as its original structure. Although many colours and shapes filled the screen it was quite simple and effective. The sound design was more over based on sound effects with minimal use of background music.
Elements of design: This projection was designed in 3D and there seem to be no 2D elements. Bright colours were constantly present which caught the attention of the audience. The building in this projection was brought down and back up several times, danced and even became an aquarium.
Formal qualities: On the whole the projection had a variety of effects but at the same time the composition was well planned. Some effects that were used during the aquarium scene were splashes, ripples, water leakage and rain.
Function: The projection was user-friendly since the idea for this project was only for entertainment and there was no story in my opinion, just short clips.
Form: In the final piece of the show a sharp is seen getting closer and closer to the audience simply by making the object grow bigger but the effect was very realistic. There were some elements in this projection in symmetry like the two fish seen going around the building having the exact same movement.
