Research & Inspiration (Task 1)
Using cutting edge 3D projection mapping techniques, Seeper showered the castle in light during Branchage Film Festival in Jersey in 2009, giving a modern day spin to the 1960s supergraphics movement. At first it seems to be simply illuminated but, over time, the entire architectural form of the castle distorts and morphs. Objects pour out the windows, the walls unravel and energy builds as this logic-defying spectacle captivates and questions perception. This battle of light and the senses shows the castle in an entirely new guise.

"Box" explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces.
Its a sort-of short film with a live performance. Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration. It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering. I think it is a great example of amazing design, it is extremely pleasing to watch and it keeps you fixated to the screen, in wonder of 'How?' I must have watched it 20 times... If this isn't 'Good Design' then i do not know what is.

During Lyon’s annual four day festival which runs each December,
The Eglise St Nizier, a Lyonais church of Gothic and Renaissance played host to a spectacular 3D light show in 2010.
The building’s facade transformed when the arches and brickwork morphed and came to life with amazing 3d work. The audience then took over by voicing noises and vocals into a system which translated into visuals projected onto the building. In effect, the audience embodied the building! So not only this is an outstanding well done projection is ti also interactive!!!

Initial sketches for story board
Scene 1
Scene 1 members (excluding 3d) :
• Luana Galea
• Yanica Galea
• Chiara Attard Portughes
• Jacqueline Muscat
• Julian Baldacchino
• Christine Borg
• Me <
As a group we decided on style and details, we looked up videos and images and discussed what style we wanted to go by. And from these we made mood boards.

Sketches
My assigned tasks where to tackle the story board and the 2d animation I also ended up sketching and illustrating some of the characters, and also putting together the animatic for our scene. (Which were not my assigned tasks.)
Mother and Child
Vaguely following Jacqueline’s rough sketches, I began sketching the characters of the mother and little girl. These are the silhouettes seen in the windows. After showing my sketches to Jacqueline, I moved on to illustrate them. I also consulted Chiara who is the one who sketched and illustrated the Majsi. When completed my team was pleased with the silhouettes.

Illustrations
Luana drew the original doll, but there were serious problems with the illustrator file, so I illustrated it, following her original design with some needed changes...

This is the lantern the Majsi holds as he walks along the facade. we had originally forgot to draw this, so i quickly illustrated it.

Scene 1 first trials
|
|
After several changes to the script regarding these characters... Having done at least 3 versions of them, We finally finalized and ironically the last version is basically just like my first trial. I have unfortunately lost my in between trials, as i have a big digital space issue, and the copies on the drive, have been mysteriously removed. . I enjoyed working on after effects, and though it was sometimes difficult for me, I was pleased with the outcome.
After doing a few tests for the walking, I realized I needed help, and I asked Redeemer Caruana for pointers. He insisted on letting him do it, and since he seemed more fit for the job, I sent him the files, and he finalized it. I offered to help him with anything he might need in his scene.
Animatic
This was quite straight forward.
It was meant to be a rough animatic simply for our composer to work on. The 3d renders where very much still behind, so I had to make due.

The Out Come
The projection was a great success. The V18 loved it, the people loved it, the press loved it. Regardless of the technical difficulties such as the bottom part being cut off, we could have asked for better feedback in the end.
All the people I spoke to, who saw it, had only positive things to say. Apart from a few critiques on the internet, the majority of viewers enjoyed it.
