Research & Inspiration
Ralph Lauren 4D experience
In celebration of 10 years of digital innovation, "Ralph Lauren" presents the ultimate fusion of art, fashion & technology in a visual feast for the 5 senses. This is probably one of the better projections I've seen whilst doing research.
The video was very influential when it came to writing a script & creating a story board. Ralph Lauren made very good use of the architecture. It wasn't just a projection on a building, it was like a projection within a building. The use of windows & layering of buildings & had great visuals that later came into play. |

Tokyo Train Station ProjectionThis projection was an other great example. It makes use of the entire building & really sticks to the theme of trains & locomotion. It uses a vast array of lights that shimmer & play along on the building façade, cheerful music & great sound effects of engines and machines to really bring out the show & wow the audience.

Christmas ProjectionMelbourne Town hall displayed a wonderful projection! The designers created beautiful artwork that turned the town hall into a magical Christmas themed toyshop.
Since our projection will be displayed during the festive season this was a great find. It has great colours & makes great use of the building (the columns for example). It was a great inspiration & was useful for references. |

Box explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection-mapping on moving surfaces. The short film documents a live performance, captured entirely in camera.
Bot & Dolly produced this work to serve as both an artistic statement and technical demonstration. It is the culmination of multiple technologies, including large scale robotics, projection mapping, and software engineering. We believe this methodology has tremendous potential to radically transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression. |
Site Visit to the Palace
During the site visit we gathered various photographs & studies both the facade & the interior of the palace so that we know better with what we're dealing with.
(I'm sure at this point you've seen the same photos over & over so there's something fun for you lecturers to laugh at.)
The Early Ideas
Below are collections of my earliest concept pieces. These were done way before the script was finalized so some things seen here aren't featured in the projection.
Scene 3 & Story Board
Once the script was finalized I was assigned to help in scene 3. This particular scene felt as if it was the largest & complicated from the scenes. We held a group meeting at school to discuss the art style & scenes in further detail. We showed each other sketches & references & all agreed on styles & what we like & don't like.

Below is the final version of the story board. Michelle Vassallo did the original & was later re-visited by Rebecca Barry & I. We helped each other out to make it & she finalized it by using some of my older concepts from previous scripts.
Refined Concept Art
Some early concepts I did for Christmas elves that would probably be used. A Male Elf on the left & a Female on the right
These were later improved & served as a base for Fleur to work on.

Based on a pencil sketch Roberta did, I made a digital render of a Luzzu, combined with a Sleigh.
Digital render of Santa with Maltese aspects based off of Kurt's sketch & references used from Schoology website.
The reins of the fish which will be pullin the sleigh. Designed with silver seashell motifs & red leashing.
As suggested by Mr. P. Camilleri, I added some icing to the factory/workshop. The soft pink icing & gumdrops will help compliment with the browns. The icing also helps create depth between the two floors of the factory.
Concept of Buildings
Dance, Dance, Dance....
Even though this was not assigned to scene 3 me & Rebecca Barry decided to help so we took part in the dancing that will be featured in the New Years countdown scene.
Below is a downloadable file of some of the footage. Just a teaser & some behind the scene pictures.

The End Result!
The turn out for our projection was great! All the hard work paid off & people truly enjoyed it. Entire families came to see & every body, of all age groups enjoyed it.
