Projection Mapping Initial Script
I personally did not like the way the script writer began with an outer space scene and moved towards the ocean. It would have been an interesting animation although I don’t think the writer was taking into consideration that this is a projection mapping and not just a projection. On the other hand I thought that it would have been interesting to see the palace facade with a laser outline as mentioned in the script. I also liked the part where rows of armour march to the audience as I believe it would have a nice effect but I absolutely did not agree on having the armour dance like the show Britain’s Got Talent.
The script also included symbolism of the WW2 such as the searchlight on the palace, air raid siren sounds and explosions which in my opinion have nothing to do with the Christmas spirit. Other symbolism could be included that are not so direct to the WW2 such as background airplane engine sounds. Another part of the script which also had nothing to do with the Christmas theme was the part of the flags where these joined together in a twirl and swirl routine. In my opinion there are too many different flags and due to this it could look like a political event. The part where the search lights and siren appear for the second time but then Santa is seen was too dramatic and untimely.
As for the ending part of New Year’s Eve I think it was quite a common ending. There are other ways how one could end this projection mapping such as what my group had suggested, using the clock that is found inside the Grand Master’s Palace.

Projection Mapping Final Script
The introduction of the new script was taken from my group’s brainstorming idea. This was followed by the poor child that received a doll from her mother. These two scenes go together very well since they represent Malta and its Christmas history. The scene continues with sounds of war and the building demolishing meaning that Christmas in Malta was not always a happy time especially during the war. This was then followed by the Maltese and EU flag which represent the victory of the war and our country being part of the EU. In my opinion this part could have been avoided due to political issues.
In the second scene there are several Maltese elements which have been given a twist such as the Maltese lace being snowflakes which have made the projection very interesting by combining Christmas and Malta in one object. The part which I would have changed is the part of the sliding doors. The concept of displaying multiple Maltese doors is fine but I would have done something more than just sliding doors such as having the doors form a rhythm.
Scene three’s Elf factory and Santa Claus with his sleigh will surely make a hit in this projection. I’m sure children watching it would love it as well as adults since they will be noticing most of the Maltese elements in this scene. I also like the way the Christmas tree is described followed by the Christmas wrapping with different ‘Merry Christmas’ labels in different languages.
The Christmas special is a part of the projection I am really looking forward to since it is picturing the nativity event in a different way by depicting it in stained glass. The palace clock, as my group had stated is a very original idea to display the countdown scene after having silhouettes of people dancing which arouses the New Year’s Eve party mood amongst the people watching it.

Animatic
In the first scene where Majsi is seen with a rod he resembles Santa Clause which might confuse the audience. In the same scene at the point when the mother hands over a doll to her daughter no zooming must be applied since it looks very unrealistic. Moving on to the second scene, the part where the sliding doors appear was in my opinion quite monotonous and long. The Elf factory scene was very enjoyable to watch although the closing part when they switched to the Christmas tree scene was not to my likings. The presents that Santa Clause gives to the children that are to be seen in windows should somehow be passed to them and not be placed in their hands simply by having Santa Clause pass in front of them. Santa Clause with his sleigh should move in a more flowing movement not straight ahead to make him look like he’s flying. At the end of the New Year’s Eve countdown, the part where the palace clock is seen, the numbers are not so visible. This is a very important part of the projection which has to been seen by the audience very clearly.
