Projections
Emerge
Art & About Sydney is an art festival organized each year in Hyde Park in Sydney, Australia. Various artists and painters cooperate together were every street, laneway, building site and intersection is a canvas for creation and storytelling.
Craig Walsh who is an Australian artist took part in it last year and he created a series of weird haunting 3D projections to illuminate the trees of the mentioned park. The project was entitled Emerge, that involved a series of ghostly, colourful projections of moveable faces on nearby trees. Something motivating is that they also included voices and the results attracted curiosity to the observers who were passing by. This sort of project continues as a series of projections in public spaces, which allows Walsh to reference histories in a place that could not normally be represented through monuments or sculptors that occupy public spaces.
From my opinion, it is something refreshing to see an artist thinking outside the box as he projected it on trees rather than on building that makes it original. Apart from this, it is a very cool effect when projectors are shown on 3D objects like this one as the colours he used combined well with the trees as they looked natural.

Prague’s Astronomical Clock 600th Anniversary
Part of the celebrations for the 600th anniversary of the Prague’s Astronomical Clock, a projection show was projected on it and three renowned companies worldwide joint together to make it that took almost four months to be finished.
The projection illustrated important moments on the clock’s history that was accompanied by sound effects, which made it more interesting. It recreated the clock’s construction, torn down, rebuilt and peeled away to show its internal mechanisms. Moreover, it showed famous figures that are part of the clock naming the twelve apostles and the skeleton.
Something that really motivated me was how the projection interacted with building’s architecture. These were the rain and fire rolling off the arch and how it showed the passage of time with moving shadows.

Hyundai Accent 3D Projection Mapping
Different from the typical promotions on cars, Hyundai made a 3D projection mapping technology by unveiling its Accent vehicle. It showed the vehicle attached to a city wall were they managed to create the illusion that the vehicle was driving through the streets inspired from the Tron movie. Adding to the excitement, a driver scaled the wall, jumped in and drove the car adding the wheels spinning to match the scene.
Projections like this one will transcend innovative medium into a powerful form of engagement with the consumers as they look more realistic and give clever addition of the visual spectacle with physical product.

Scene 2 and End Credits
As I was part of Scene 2 and End Credits; Matthew, Lorraine, Kimberly, Kurt, Andrew and me set a meeting how we were going to develop these particular passages. Some remarkable points that we have specified, which somehow were better from the script given to us were:
· In the first part, the palace’s façade will take shape from scratch
· As the palace’s façade is finished from structure, snowflakes will start to fall in the form of Maltese lace
· A particular snowflake will stop in the middle and then it changes into a Maltese door knocker
· Following this, the door knocker zooms out were it shows that it was part of a traditional Maltese door
· The door will open and displays varies doors opening one after the other
· On each side, the actual doors of the palace will give the impression that they are rotating 360°
To give an image how the Scene 2 was going to look like, Lorraine, Kurt, Andrew and I illustrated a storyboard and in addition, it was made digital by myself.

Shirley and me were responsible to make the illustrations of the end credits and being inspired from those of the computer animation Tangled, we used the similar style as an artwork.
From the start our intention was to combine the Christmas theme with Valletta‘s culture. To get more into the subject, I went to Valletta to take specific photos so we can get inspired to make the illustrations.
After looking at the images, we came up with these concepts to work on:
· Landscape of Valletta and a Christmas star passing through the skies
· Grand Master La Vallette observing and a Christmas hat falling down on his head
· Siege Bell Memorial with Christmas decorations
· Knights playing a sack race but instead of sacks, there will be Christmas socks
· Children looking outside at the credits in a Maltese balcony
· Angel playing trumpet while trying to wake up the statue of Queen Victoria
· Great Siege monument singing Christmas carols

Additionally, another idea was to make each student’s face in the course illustrated beside his or her name however it was coming too confusing as other illustrations were going to be shown therefore we had to leave this intention behind. This is an illustration I started to do of my classmate Lindsay Aquilina, showing the basic outline of her face and appearance.
As the concepts were chosen, we divided the themes between us so they will be finished good and quicker. The next step was to start making the backgrounds for each theme both mine and also of Shirley so they will be presented on a different one. As a look, I made them similar of an old paper with stains on them.
The technique used to make the illustrations consisted of bold outlines and drawn not in such detail therefore we kept the style used in Tangled. Another point is that we only used red, green and white colours in them as they symbolize Christmas. Underneath, one can see the design process of the illustrations I made starting from the sketch, outline and the final result.
