StartUp Festival - Basilica Palladiana Vicenza - 3D Projection Mapping
This projection for the Start up Festival and it was projected on the Basilica Palladiana in Vicenza. There is a mixture of 2D and 3D design in this projection. Part of the show was a synchronisation of music with light. One can also see that a live performance by a maestro was involved in the projection. I also like the fact that this was a projection on a historical building and also part of a disco party in sync with a famous DJ who was playing live music.
Rudy Bertazzo created the Mapping for this projection, while Andrea Comparin composed the music. Bertazzo made use of lots of colours and patterns.
The building was constructed by different depths and light. I noticed that no texture was used. Then a ribbon appeared going around the doors and windows of this historical building. I think that this idea can be used especially when the building you are working on has a lot of windows.
There is a sudden change in the storyline. At the beginning orchestral music was used then suddenly a war siren was heard and rain was projected on the building to change the scene. Silhouette aeroplanes started to move on the facade. I tried to apply this idea into the Valletta 18 project, because we created a story that shows the building during the Great Siege and eventually World War 2.
When you are creating a projection mapping, I think it is important to create some architectural projection. It is something that the viewer always wants to see during a projection mapping. 3D design helps you persuade those watching the projection that the building is really cracking. Another important feature during a projection mapping is the sound effects which helps the scene to look even more realistic.

Ralph Lauren 4 D Experience
This projection is the one of the best I have seen. It was produced in celebration of 10 years of digital innovation; RalphLauren.com presents the ultimate fusion of art, fashion & technology in a visual feast for the 5 senses. The London flagship disappeared is then transformed into a series of objects and images rendered in 3-dimensional space. The projection was a 4D experience, were the audience were also involved. There is a mixture of 2D, 3D and also 4D elements in this projection. A video footage and search lights were used as part of this experience. From the beginning one could notice that this experience was an advert for Ralph Lauren so it was also a way of communication with the audience since at some point a modelling show appeared and different products were also displayed.
The building was constructed in 3D in various ways. Depth and light were used to create the 3D of the facade. I noticed that no texture was used. Then something which I also like was the ray of light going in and out of the windows. I think that this idea can be used especially when the building you are working on has a lot of windows. One of the best parts of this projection was when the building became a stage for a modelling show. Here video footage of male and female models was used. I was curious about how they created such a magnificent work, so I watched the making of. One can see that a set was built in purpose for this projection and was covered all with green colour.
Something that gave a twist to this projection was when the building broke out and jockeys on horses were projected playing golf. Obviously the idea is to create the logo, but it’s not easy to film such scene. In fact during the making of, 30 metres green screen was constructed for this scene.
An innovative aspect in this projection was when actual spray was sprayed on the audience, so they were sort of involved directly in the projection.

3D Projection Mapping promoting The Tourist in Dallas
This building projection was to promote the new movie "The Tourist" starring Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. The Joule Hotel in downtown Dallas hosted a party with this 3D architectural mapping projection art show, it was projected on the Praetorian Building. Jack Hattingh and Alan Demafiles managed to create an architectural projection mapping in 3D with some video footage.
The building was constructed and cracked down in 3D is various ways. Something I really like is when the building changes to form another building in itself. Depths and light were used to form the facade of this hotel. I noticed that no texture was used. Since the building consists of many windows, they tried to make use of them as much as possible. This idea can be used especially when the building you are working on has a lot of windows and we saw this in the other two projection mappings I chose to discuss.
There is a sudden change in the storyline. At the beginning orchestral music was used and the windows are synchronised to roll with the music. Suddenly, the building changes its natural form and the poster of the movie showed up. The sudden change is important so the audience will notice that you are advertising something. Maybe if the projection mapping continued until the end and then the poster or trailer showed up, the audience would have forgotten that this projection mapping was designed actually to promote a new movie.

Hyundai Accent 3D Projection Mapping
This is the Hyundai Accent new advert 3D using projection mapping. This projection consisted of 120+ crew members, 6 HD projectors, 10 HD cameras, 6 cranes and also 4 months production, with 1 stuntman and 1000+ live event audience. They designed a horizontal and vertical 3D video projection with a hanging car and a stuntman performing live.
Many companies are applying projection mapping as part of their strategy to promote a new product. In this case the new Hyundai Accent was launches in a very original and unique way.
