Concept 1
Title: Elements (Materials)
Idea: The idea for this concept was to create various different abstract 3D shapes for each individual course. Thus 6 abstract shapes would have been designed, for; fine arts, 3D, graphics, interactive media, media and photography. The original idea was to give these abstract shapes a material/element, hence the title. For example the fine arts 3D abstract object would have a paint texture. I wasn’t quite sure about this idea, as it was similar to the previous exhibition branding.
I wasn’t quite sure about the exhibition title either, as the word ‘elements’ can be interpreted by the audience in various ways, one might understand the material implication, however some might not.
I tried to come up with a few other titles for this concept like:
- Mock-up: as the exhibition is representing the students work
- Metamorphosis or Morph: as all the individual 3D objects will be morphing (transforming) into one abstract shape, thus implementing that the school is made up of the individual courses.
However, the rest of the group didn’t like these ideas.
Inspiration: As inspiration for this concept we focused on two examples found by Denise. Both example Denise found included abstract 3D objects transforming and forming one large abstract shape.
The following images represent the inspiration projects tittled 'Mutto' and 'Materials'.

Concept 2
Title: SurFaces | surFaces
This concept was developed by Denise Axiaq, as the group wasn’t sure about the first concept.
Idea: this concept includes the same idea from the previous concept however instead of having abstract objects each course would include a 3D face with different materials depending on the courses subject. The face would represent the students within the courses and the materials will allow for recognition, so as to distinguish one course from another.
Courses and their materials:
- Graphic Design: Printed paper
- Interactive Media: Mesh/ wire
- Photography: Glass lens/ reflection
- Media: Distortion
- Fine Arts: Paint
- 3D: Matte white 3D model texture
The main brand would include the title and a 2D representation of the basic face. The 3D faces will be used for the advertisement and projection.
Since the 3D model faces will be made of different materials representing the school, I thought it would be a great idea to create an installation, which will be made out of different materials with the adequate surface depending on the courses. These can be displayed in front of the tower on stands or next to the entrance.
Projection: With regard to the projection we came up with two ideas, the first idea would include the different faces representing each course. And the second idea would include a large 3d face, which can be made out of clay, paper or 3d printer. This structure would be attached to the tower and the morphing faces would be projected on the structure.

Concept 3
Title: Fragments
Idea: The concept has been changed to the previous 'abstract' idea, however the title has been changed to 'Fragments'.
The idea behind this concept is to have several different abstract shapes all having different materials related to each particular course (as discussed in the first concept). Since the title is fragments, all the individual pieces/shapes will then transform and morph into one, which will be our logo.
With regard to the 'abstract shape materials', which are related to each course we decided to choose the following:
- Graphic Design: Printed paper/ cmyk
- Interactive Media: Mesh/ wire / hologram
- Photography: Glass lens/ reflection/ flash
- Media: Distortion
- Fine Arts: Paint / mixture of materials: wood, metal, clay
- 3D: Matte white 3D model texture
This concept was changed as the title may be misunderstood

Concept 4
Title: Artifex
Artifex defention:
- a master of art, professional man, artist, artificer
- arts, crafts and trade
Idea: The original idea of incorporating 3D abstract objects for the artwork has been eliminated, as this did not match the concept behind the chosen title. Instead we decided that everything has to be consistent and linked, thus the title, logo artwork, projection and wayfinding should be consistent.
We decided to go back to our original idea which involves abstract shapes, however we decided to use prisms and triangular 3D shapes so as to avoid having a circular shapes, since the previous exhibition’s branding involved a circle.
The idea is to have a prism/3D shape for each course; these will be very simple and minimal having no texture or materials. These abstract/ triangular shapes will be connected – all white however, each course will have its own colour thus, each course will have a particular shape and colour.
We decided to divide ourselves into different departments. I was in charge or working about the projection and class interior and the corridor, originally with Denise, Chris and Nickolas, however Nickolas changed department to work on the wayfinding.
Projection: Since our concepts includes 3D prisms, the idea was to include 3D prisms made out of wood (fibre board). These will be displayed in front of the tower using wire rope.
The 3D structure will be a replica of our artwork.
The idea is to have each individual prism light accordingly to the course, this way we will introduce the courses. For example: the whole structure will be white, then 1 prism will light blue for graphic design, the another prism will light orange for interactive design etc.
After all the courses are introduced there will be a transition. This will be done in order to re introduce the courses this time more visually. The idea is to have each course introduced through its mediums:
- Fine Arts: dripping paint will be projected onto the prisms.
- Graphics: a pen tool icon will form the prisms.
- Photography: light/ FLASH will be projected onto the prisms.
- 3D: Mesh forming the 3D matte white texture.
- Media: Distortion/ noise (ross)
- Interactive: Hands turning prisms.
All the above have been chosen in consistency with the designed icons. Sound effects will be included, obviously related to the visuals.
After introducing all the courses the projection will be linked with the voices performance. This will be interactive, thus the idea is to have the prisms change shapes and colour according to the sounds. This idea is similar to one of the example I found during my research done in task 1. the projection was called 'Perspective Lyrique'.

Corridor: With regard to the corridor, we have scrapped the idea of displaying the VCP tunnel work, as V18 might be against it and might not look good. Instead we have come up with various different ideas which can be implemented for our corridor.
- The idea is to have all the students faces in the corridor, this can be either photographs or cartoonish. Each student will have a number and the same number will be labeled next to their work.
- The idea is to have 3D poster with advertisement
- Interactive floor: prisms will be projected on the floor, when people walk the prisms will move or change. (like the one in Estilo)
- Interactive monitors with 3D map of the school, showing our way finding allowing visitors better access. (this must be linked with another idea)
- Multiple screens showing various looping videos of our design process: V18 projection, VCP Way finding and Tunnel.
After showing the ideas to the group they all voted for the latter idea of having multiple screens showing the sound and VCP work.
Class Space: With regard to the class rooms our main concern was space. After the presentation regarding space by one of the MCAST lecturers, we decided that everyone within the class should have an equal amount of space as having hierarchy within the projects may distract the work of other students.
Thus, since we wanted equal space we decided to take measurements of the room in order to divide the space equally for each student. Each room will have 21 spaces, the area allocated to each student will have enough space wall space for a monitor or poster and a shelf for a book keyboard and mouse.
Both rooms will have the same layout and as a department we decided that the class interior would include wall panels made out of wood. These panels will be used in order to cover the windows, walls, computer towers and wires. Space will be left between the wooden panels and the walls allowing 1 person to check that all the devices are working properly.
Monitors will be attached to the wooden panels using wall mounts and the shelves will be attached using floating wall shelves, which will be inserted into the wooden panels.
The room will also include a stand in the middle allowing more items to be displayed. Again these stands will include space for monitors, keyboard, and mouse or tablet as well space for an editorial piece.
Since our concept includes prisms we decided to include this into our interiors. The walls and stands will be white, however we decided extra led’s will be projecting coloured light from the ceiling, with regard to colour we decided to use blue and orange since these were the chosen colours for graphic design and interactive media. However the colours won’t be bright and won’t distract the work, as they will be covered by prisms, which will be attached to the ceiling. Thus the coloured led’s would give and reflect a soft light effect of the paper structures.
We also thought of adding a few prisms made out of paper to the middle stand so as to compliment the theme.
The following images depict various sketches and paper models done for the projection and interior concepts.

Denise and I also decided to work on a token. The idea behind this token was to attach it to the invitation which will be sent to every family. The token will allow the visitors to have a free wine, this will allow a better flow at the during the exhibition.
The following images depict the token design process.
