The Box, is a name of a project by Bot and Dolly to promote their line of work. It is a San Francisco-based design and engineering studio. It features a filmed clip demonstrating a mixture of robotically controlled monitors, projection-mapping and choreographed human interaction.
This interaction between projection mapping and robotics is one of a kind. It consists of 2 panels/canvases attached to separate robotic arms to create the illusion of interaction with the human being while the projectors are doing their job by mapping straight on the panels. It makes u believe that the actor is actually moving the panels around.
This short film was described to be an artistic statement and technical demonstration that explores the synthesis of real and digital space through projection mapping on moving surfaces.
As a result this project captures multiple technologies working together to literally transform theatrical presentations, and define new genres of expression.
By using projection mapping the surfaces are transformed into boxes and moving objects, using only black and white colours. Within the boxes, are moving object which levitates, transforms, and teleports from one box to another. At the end of the film lines appear on the panels outlining the hidden parts of the robotic arms. Great choice of audio with pitch perfect synchronization.
